Dumpling are not only looking cute but they are also delicious. Not to mention that there are so many different versions of dumplings around the world. Dumplings are simply a pocket of dough filled with savory or sweet filling. In many countries, especially in Asia, dumplings have been one of the staples. They are versatile and come from different sizes, shapes, and filling types. 

Mouthwatering types of dumplings you need to know

Dumplings are versatile because you can make many variations of them according to your preference. They are not only for meat lovers but also for vegetarians and vegans. The filling can be adjusted accordingly. For vegetarian, the fillings are free from meat and full of delightful vegetables. Meanwhile, meat lovers can enjoy dumplings filled with any type of meat from beef, pork, shrimp, to chicken. 

Cha Siu Bao

This dumpling is from China and categorized into dim sum. It is filled with pork meat that was barbecued before. Cha Siu means barbecue pork and Bao means chewy buns. It is steamed but can also be baked as preferred. There are also other variations of Cha Siu Bao but the main concept is still similar. You can enjoy Chinese version or Hawaiian version. 

Empanadas

This type of dumpling can be found in South America. There are so many variations of this dumpling all over South America. The dough itself is made from corn or flour that is folded over and cooked by baking or frying. The dough is usually stuffed with varieties such as chicken, fish, corn, etc. Many people consider Empanadas too big to be called dumplings. However, you can still call it dumpling.

Gyoza

Gyoza is a type of dumpling from Japan. It has cute shape with pretty small size. The difference between Gyoza and regular dumpling is that it has thinner wrappers. As for the fillings, there are so many types of stuffings included such as minced pork, scallions, cabbage, garlic, and ginger. The best way to enjoy Gyoza is by dipping it into a special dipping sauce made from chili oil, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. 

Kroppkaka

Kroppkaka is dumpling that is considered traditional dish. The fillings are mix of bacon and onions. It is usually served with butter and lingonberry sauce. The dough is made with potato mixed with barley flour which the locals call as palt.  There is also another version of this Sweden dumpling in which the dough is mixed with beef, pig, or reindeer blood. It might be a little extreme for some people but the locals surely love it.

Mandu

Mandu is dumpling from Korea coming with different sizes. Korean cook Mandu in many different ways. They steam, pan fry, or boil it as they prefer. The dough is also pretty thin and the stuffings are full of mixed ingredients. The dough is usually stuffed with ground pork, beef, or chicken, kimchi, noodles, and vegetables. It is best to dip Mandu into a dipping sauce made of vinegar and soy sauce.
