It is normal to feel so because the room has been used by God knows how many people before. You don’t know whether the room is clean or just looking neat and tidy.
How to make your hotel room clean
Many people use black light to inspect the cleanliness of hotel room. They investigate the room to find unexpected and shocking truth about the room. However, it is not necessary to carry this kind of device for travelling. You can make sure your room clean without being too obsessive about it, such as:
Spare time to read the reviews before booking a hotel room. Of course, reviews are not always 100 accurate because opinion is subjective and every individual may have different standard. However, reviews can help you avoid poor, dirty hotel room. If many people say the room is decent and clean then at least you won’t have to worry too much.
Wash your hand regularly when travelling included when entering your hotel room. At least, apply your hand-sanitizer so you don’t necessarily bring in more germs to the hotel room. During your stay in the hotel, always remember to wash your hands frequently especially after going out, before eating, and before touching your face area.
You can remove the bedspread if you are unsure about whether it has been washed after being used by the previous guest. Or, you can ask new bedspread to the hotel staff. If they don’t give you the new fresh bedspread then you can use your own travel-friendly blanket.

Do not just carelessly use the glassware without washing it first yourself. Even if it is washed before and the previous guests didn’t even touch it, you don’t know how long the glassware sit there. Maybe it is already full of dust and germs. So before using it, run your glass, cup, or mug under hot water for one or two minutes to kill most of the bacteria.
If you are afraid of bedbugs. You can do the inspection yourself. Look for some signs of bedbugs. Look under the mattress and see if there are any reddish-brown spots on the underside of the mattress. Bedbugs are tiny and sneaky but they often leave footprint (well not literally footprint) in a form of infestation. Not only the mattress should you check, investigate the couch and carpet as well.
